Is it any wonder that I'm transsexual, FTM, but do not want the reconstruction of genitals? From what Ive heard its expensive and often not very realistic. do a lot of people feel this way?

Not even remotely funny. The trans many guys who (I think of myself included), I know, two have decided to undergo a background to know the operation. As you said, is expensive and often leads simply not worth the cost and the frequent occurrence of unpleasant complications.
No, I do not think it strange at all, and I think it is fairly common. There is a guy on YouTube that trans some success with hormones and had just after the vacuum pump with a plastic medical syringe.
